Accuracy vs resistance

November 26th 2020

Okay, Im going to write about a very hot topic in the summoners war world. There is a serious amount of confusion on how EXACTLY this works. Well, I finally did the research and found the answers I was looking for. I think we can all agree that math trumps all when it comes to games, % this and subtract that, it all comes down to math. Well here I go:

Accuracy vs resistance misconceptions

It is popular belief  that if you have 100% accuracy vs 100% resistance, that they cancel each other out and voila! If that was true, why dosen’t a 100% accuracy anything (with a skill that is 100% chance to activate) literally always land debuffs? Puzzling I know! Where is this magic resistance coming from? There are also other theories on how this all works but once you read and see the evidence you will see for yourself.

Well, It turns out that the 15% resistance that literally every monster comes with, can NEVER be reduced below 15% in any circumstances (Unless skill used on them is not resistible like Nephthys skills or Tiana strip) . It’s game mechanic. That being said, if you know the resistance of a monster, you only need that minus 15% as your accuracy for the highest application rate. It is good to rune 85% accuracy in PvP since a lot of players will rune their monsters with 100% resistance, so to bring their resistance down to the basic default 15% you need that 85% accuracy. In PvE however, right now with DB12 and TOAHell, you only need 65% accuracy.

I found a few good links that just lay it all out for you with math. Com2us never made anything official but now it’s undeniable that the above theory is very close to accurate. Because we don’t have the “ Yes that’s exactly it or No, that’s not it” directly by Com2us we can not claim with 100% certainty that that is what the mechanic is EXACTLY. However, we have the next best thing, proof.

Explained in my own way

It is NOT worth bothering runeing any accuracy at all unless its above 15% AND there is no point runeing above 85% accuracy since it is the max effective rate. However, it is always worth runeing 100% resistance or any resistance in general. Here are some examples.

Scenarios

A= Accuracy, R= Resistance.

  • 85%A vs 85%R =  0%A vs 15%R (CANNOT GO BELOW 15% Resist) so 15% wasted accuracy since 70% Accuracy would have same result.

  • 100%A vs 85%R = 0%A vs 15%R (CANNOT GO BELOW 15% Resist) so 30% wasted accuracy since 70% Accuracy would have same result.

  • 70%A vs 100%R = 0%A vs 30%R

  • 70%A vs 85%R = 0%A vs 15%R

  • 100%A vs 15%R = 100%A vs 15%R (CANNOT GO BELOW 15% Resist) 100% wasted accuracy since 0% accuracy would be same result.

  • 100%A vs 100%R= 0%A vs 15%R (CANNOT GO BELOW 15% Resist) 15% wasted accuracy since 85% would have been same result.

  • 50%A vs 50%R = 0%A vs 15%R (CANNOT GO BELOW 15% Resist) 15% wasted accuracy as 35% accuracy would have been same result.

  • 5%A vs 100%R = 0%A vs 95%R

  • 35%A vs 100%R = 0%A vs 65%R

  • 15%A vs 15%R =  0%A vs 15%R (CANNOT GO BELOW 15% Resist) 15% wasted accuracy since 0% accuracy would have been same result.

  • 0%A vs 100%R = 100% chance to resist aka you will never land a debuff. (Yes I tested this myself with a 0% accuracy unit with 100% activation rate skill vs a 100% resist unit) I tested roughly 500+ S1 attacks (I repeat, 100% activation chance skill) and literally not 1 debuff landed.

My guess is that they wanted to keep the 15% resistance at all times to keep the RNG factor in gameplay. We all know how much Com2us loves their RNG *cough cough vio cough cough*

I hope this clears things up and helps someone! :)
